John Phillips is the company’s leader in securing and managing multi-year, interim and transitional management agreements with single-specialty and multi-specialty medical groups. Phillips possesses a combination of experience, expertise and relationship skills which allow him to serve as a catalyst for improving relationships, working environments and operational performance for physician groups and, when applicable, their affiliated hospitals and health plans. Phillips has 30 years of health care experience working with physicians and health system operations across the country. He has participated in more than 500 physician group board meetings, recruited more than 300 physicians to multi-specialty groups, conducted more than 75 strategic planning sessions and led 25 successful physician pay-plan restructurings. In addition to his role as President of PivotHealth, Phillips served as the Interim Chief Administrative Officer for the 300 physician Queens-Long Island Medical Group, a management contract client of PivotHealth, located in New York City.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Served as the first Vice President of Operations for PhyCor, Inc. and later became its first Senior Vice President of Group Operations, where he was in charge of 14 clinic operations in seven states.
- As Administrator/CEO of Miller Medical Group, Tennessee’s largest medical group, Phillips served for 17 years and integrated it into the PhyCor organization. Developed Tennessee’s first HMO, PruCare, in conjunction with Prudential and facilitated rapid growth of HMO membership from zero to 43,000 in three years.
- Has been a member of MGMA since 1974, serving as President of the Tennessee MGMA in 1979 and was granted a lifetime membership as a result of service.
EDUCATION
B.S. Business Administration, Vanderbilt University
First in Vanderbilt’s history to graduate with degree in three years, while simultaneously obtaining additional hours to receive Naval officer commission.
